Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin noted after Wednesday’s practice that if a player is healthy on Friday, they will play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Steelers kick off the NFL preseason on Friday night against the Bucs and it sounds like quarterback Kenny Pickett is ready to get on the field.
Pickett talked about his role in Friday’s game and seemed open to whatever reps he can get.
‘I’ll be in there for however long they want me to be,” Pickett said. “When they pull me, they’ll pull me out. I’m excited to play.”
There isn’t much for the Steelers to sort out in terms of the quarterback depth chart. Pickett is the starter and Mitch Trubisky is locked in as the backup. Either of those guys being on the field is about building chemistry and knocking off the rust.
What we will keep an eye on is the battle between Mason Rudolph and Tanner Morgan to hold onto a roster spot as the No. 3 quarterback.
There was a time when Tomlin would have never put his starting quarterback, aka Ben Roethlisberger on the field before the third preseason game. With only three games on the schedule now instead of four, it changes everything.
