As expected, the debut of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson wasn’t well received by all of Steeler Nation. This was only made worse when Wilson came out of the gate and struggled in the first quarter against the New York Jets.
When Wilson came out rusty, the fans wasted no time in booing Wilson and calling for Justin Fields. But Wilson shut out the noise, kept his focus and by the end of the first half was in full command of the offense. Wilson came out showed he is still a tremendous thrower and decision maker leading the Steelers to a blowout win thanks to three total touchdowns.
Wilson credited his former mental coach who recently passed away for helping him learn to shut out the noise and stay the course. We were admittedly skeptical of head coach Mike Tomlin making this change when the team was 4-2 but after a one-game sample, things are going well.
