Steelers put all the pressure on Kenny Pickett after Matt Canada firing

It might have come a few weeks late but on Tuesday the Pittsburgh Steelers finally came to their senses and fired Matt Canada. Sort of like tearing off a band-aid, it only hurt for a second but now it’s time to see what is under there.

Firing Canada set in motion a plan to see what the Steelers now have with quarterback Kenny Pickett without Canada’s coaching. Quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan will take over play calling and you can bet this new scheme will be tailored to what Pickett does well and showcase his skills.

At that point, it’s all on Pickett. No one is saying Pickett will be replaced if he struggles in these final seven games or doesn’t make huge strides in his development. But there are two things he cannot do. He can’t get worse and he can’t keep making the same mistakes.

This week the Steelers take on a Cincinnati Bengals team minus Joe Burrow. A perfect opportunity for Pickett to take some chances and see if he and Sullivan can get him back on track without being overly concerned with getting into a shootout.
