Patrick Queen was doing his best Patrick Queen in a standout performance against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
But Sam Fortier, Commanders beat writer for the Washington Post, posted on X, saying that he had never seen tight end John Bates as angry as he was after a play involving Queen.
From the video, it appears Bates is blocking Queen while attempting to tackle running back Austin Ekeler. Bates takes hold of Queen as they are both dragged to the ground, where Queen appears to have grabbed Bates’ arm. The two scuffled, resulting in Bates’ helmet coming off.
Both teams were penalized, and Bates had postgame words for Queen, accusing him of playing dirty. “I was just playing through the whistle,” Bates said. “It’s just the way I play. If you go back and watch the film, in my opinion, it was him probably trying to do something dirty to me.”
The Pro Bowler responded on X: “Tried to dump me so I dumped him. If he still mad I ain’t hard to find.”
Queen delivered a standout performance, turning in his best game with the Steelers to date. He recorded 13 tackles, including six solo stops, showcasing his ability to disrupt the Commanders’ offensive plays. A pivotal moment occurred when Queen broke up a pass intended for wide receiver Terry McLaurin, forcing Washington to punt.
Queen’s consistent pressure and strategic play were instrumental in limiting the effectiveness of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, contributing significantly to the Steelers’ narrow 28-27 win.
