On Tuesday, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan spoke to the media at the NFL Scouting Combine. With this being Khan’s first draft as the team’s general manager, he talked about the process and if the team would be making any significant changes to the process.
Khan offered some insight into the Steelers process this year and while some of the names have changed, the standard is the standard. Pittsburgh added Andy Weidl from the Philadelphia Eagles to be their assistant general manager. Weidl will be in charge of the scouting department to build the Steelers draft board. Weidl had a similar role for the Eagles and was part of several very good draft classes. Pittsburgh is in the process of rebuilding the roster so Weidl’s expertise will be a must.
But according to Khan, the picks will remain a group decision between himself, head coach Mike Tomlin and owner Art Rooney II. The 2023 NFL draft is scheduled for April 27-29 in Kansas City Missouri.
Steelers GM Omar Khan said not much changes in the draft process. Andy Weidl and the scouting dept. help set the board. Then Khan, Mike Tomlin and Art Rooney II decide on the picks.
