Steelers gave QB Mitch Trubisky a heads up about drafting of Kenny Pickett

Immediately after the end of the 2021 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers sprang into action to help keep this team competitive after the not-so-sudden retirement of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

The first thing the Steelers did was sign free-agent quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Trubisky is a former first-round pick looking to resurrect his career with the Steelers after failing in Chicago. But not so fast.

One of the worst-kept secrets was the Steelers were enamored with 2022 quarterback draft class, in particular former Pitt star Kenny Pickett. But according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Steelers had given Trubisky the heads up that Pickett could be the team’s first-round pick.

“But I was told that he even knew that Kenny Pickett was a strong possibility going into this,” Fowler said on ESPN. “If he was there at number 20, they might take him. He was prepared for this.”

So now Trubisky finds himself in a position battle with the rookie Pickett in what might be his last best chance to get his once-promising career back on track.
