Steelers CB Patrick Peterson wanted to wear No. 7 but understands it isn’t happening

On day one of the unofficial start of free agency, the Pittsburgh Steelers swapped out starting cornerbacks. Cameron Sutton signed with the Detroit Lions but Pittsburgh quickly replaced him with former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Patrick Peterson. Now the Steelers have their starting cornerbacks for 2023, it’s just a matter of sorting out the details.

One of those details is what number Peterson will wear. For much of his career, Peterson wore No. 21 while playing for the Arizona Cardinals. However the last two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, Peterson when to wearing No. 7. the number he wore at LSU.

After the news broke, Peterson said he would love to continue to wear No. 7. But Steeler Nation quickly made it clear that while everyone is excited to have him on the team, wearing No. 7 isn’t really an option. Obviously, this number is the one worn by future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger and is sacred territory now that he has retired.

But Peterson understood and even took to Twitter to let everyone know he understands. If Peterson wants to go back to No. 21, he would only need to convince or compensate defensive back Tre Norwood to make it happen.

Let us know in the comments what number you think Peterson should wear as a member of the Steelers.
