Steelers CB Patrick Peterson ranks low among cornerbacks by PFF

A case could be made that the Pittsburgh Steelers biggest free-agent move of the offseason was signing veteran cornerback Patrick Peterson. Peterson brings a wealth of experience and leadership to a very young group of cornerbacks.

But Pro Football Focus is unimpressed. They ranked the Top 32 cornerbacks in the NFL and the best the future Hall of Famer could do is land at No. 31 overall.

Here’s what PFF has to say about the placement of Peterson:

Peterson had a huge bounce-back season in 2022 for the Vikings. He finished with a 77.8 PFF overall grade and five interceptions, the most he has recorded in a single season since 2012. At this point in his career, he is better in zone coverage than he is playing man to man, but he showed that he is still capable of very high-level play if he can be protected a little within the scheme.

I suppose one saving grace is Cameron Sutton, the guy Peterson replaced didn’t make the list at all.
