Steelers, Bills have 8 former Dolphins wild-card matchup

The Miami Dolphins have been eliminated from the postseason following their 27-6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday night.

So, while Dolphins fans prepare for the offseason, there are a number of former Dolphins who are still playing for a Super Bowl championship that they can support.

On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills are set to battle in a wild-card matchup of their own, and there are eight former Dolphins on their rosters and practice squads.

Here’s a look at which players who once donned the aqua and orange will play in this one:

Fitzpatrick was selected by the Dolphins in the first round of the 2018 draft out of Alabama. He spent his first two seasons with the team before being traded to the Steelers (along with fourth and seventh-round picks) for a first, fifth and sixth.

In 18 games with Miami, Fitzpatrick recorded 80 tackles, nine passes defensed, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Roberts was signed by the Dolphins in 2020 after spending his first four years with the Patriots. He was a captain in all three of his seasons with Miami before leaving for the Steelers this past offseason.

In 47 games for the Dolphins, Roberts recorded 251 tackles, 12 quarterback hits, four passes defensed, three forced fumbles, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Steelers S Eric Rowe

Rowe originally signed with the Dolphins in 2019 after stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots. He started as the starting safety but transitioned to a lesser role as Jevon Holland arrived in Miami.

In 63 games for the Dolphins, Rowe recorded 299 tackles (six for a loss), 25 passes defensed, six forced fumbles, five quarterback hits, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Steelers OT Kellen Diesch

Diesch was signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent this past offseason following a collegiate career at Texas A&M and Arizona State. He was waived during final roster cuts, so he never played a regular-season game with Miami.

Bills DE Shaq Lawson

Lawson signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Dolphins in 2020 after finishing his rookie contract with the Bills. Just one year into the deal, however, he was traded to the Houston Texans (along with a sixth-round pick) for linebacker Benardrick McKinney and a seventh-round pick.

In 14 games with Miami, Lawson recorded 32 tackles (four for a loss), 18 quarterback hits, four sacks, one pass defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Bills WR Trent Sherfield

Sherfield signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in 202, and while he wasn’t expected to be a contributor, he set a number of career highs before leaving for the Bills this past offseason.

In 14 games for Miami, Sherfield recorded 30 receptions for 417 yards and two touchdowns.

Mancz was traded to the Dolphins (along with a seventh-round pick) for a sixth-round pick in 2021. He played part of the season but a neck injury kept him from seeing the field more.

He appeared in five games for Miami, starting four of them. He received a 61.9 overall grade by Pro Football Focus (62.7 in pass blocking and 59.6 in run blocking).

Phillips was drafted by the Dolphins in the second round of the 2015 draft out of Oklahoma. He was waived and claimed by the Bills during the final season of his rookie contract.

In 48 games with Miami, Phillips recorded 58 tackles (12 for a loss), 17 quarterback hits, 11 passes defensed, 5.5 sacks and one interception.
