The Steelers are expected to sign cornerback Patrick Peterson, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Peterson won’t officially sign with Pittsburgh until Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET when the league year officially begins.
The eight-time Pro Bowler spent the last two seasons with the Vikings before previously playing 10 years with the Cardinals. Last season, Peterson finished the year with five interceptions for 92 yards.
The move comes as a bit of a surprise, especially after Peterson listed the Bengals, Cowboys and Eagles as the teams he’d want to sign with while appearing on Adam Schefter’s podcast on Monday. Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton even quote tweeted the video expressing hope that Peterson would sign with Cincinnati. Now, Peterson will play for the Bengals’ AFC North rival.
Peterson admitted on the podcast that he’s looking for “jewelry” at this point of his career as he has yet to win a Super Bowl. He will join the Steelers franchise that is tied for the league’s most Super Bowl titles with six in its history. Last season, the Steelers just barely missed the playoffs with a 9–8 record.
