While the variant may be more contagious than the earlier Omicron variant, vaccine efficiency appears to be similar for both types.
The variant, known officially as BA.2, has been nicknamed stealth Omicron because, when it’s picked up on PCR tests, its differences from Omicron make it harder to identify as a subvariant of that.
