Stay away: major emergency warning for Queensland fire

People in Queensland are being warned to avoid an out-of-control blaze burning west of Hervey Bay. (Patrick Hamilton/AAP PHOTOS)

Queensland authorities are warning people who have left the area of an out-of-control bushfire west of Hervey Bay to stay away as the area remains unsafe.

Local media are being instructed to use the standard emergency warning signal to alert those in the vicinity, a measure reserved for the most serious and life-threatening scenarios.
