Met Eireann has issued a weather warning as Ireland braces itself for thunderstorms.
A nationwide Status Orange thunderstorm warning for Ireland has been issued by Met Eireann, after the warning was upgraded from an earlier Status Yellow warning. According to forecasters, "heavy downpours of rain and hail" are on the way today as temperatures are expected to hit 30 degrees Celsius in some areas.
The warning comes into effect at 3pm today and is valid until 9am tomorrow. The Status Yellow high temperature warning remains valid for Munster, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway and Roscommon until 6am tomorrow.

Met Eirean said that thunderstorm activity is expected, but due to the sporadic nature of the storms, not all areas will be affected. A forecaster said: "While some places will stay dry, hit and miss thunderstorm activity along with hail and heavy downpours may lead to spot flooding and hazardous driving conditions."
The hottest places in Ireland yesterday was 30.7C in Oak Park in Co Carlow and 30.6C in Fermoy Park in Co Cork. Meanwhile, the hottest August day in Ireland was recorded on Friday with temperatures soaring to 31.7C at Oak Park in Carlow.
Looking forward to tomorrow, scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to affect southern half the country, becoming intense through the afternoon with an enhanced risk of flooding. Tomorrow’s temperatures will return “closer to average” tomorrow, ranging from a cool 14 to 16 degrees in the northwest to 17 to 23 degrees elsewhere.
