The White Sox and Mariners are under way at Guaranteed Rate Field after a 45 minute rain delay.
The game, slated to begin at 6:10 p.m., started at 6:55 p.m.
Left-hander Dallas Keuchel, seeking his 100th career victory, started for the Sox against Mariners lefty Robbie Ray, who won the AL Cy Young award with the Blue Jays last season. And it was Keuchel, who struck out four batters in the first three innings and led 4-1, who had the early advantage.
After Ty France homered against Keuchel in the first inning to, Eloy Jimenez answered with a 440-foot homer in the second. Andrew Vaughn singled and scored on Jake Burger’s single, and Tim Anderson scored two runs with a double to the left-center field gap to cap a four-run inning for the Sox.
The rain that delayed the start returned shortly after the first pitch, and most of the first two innings were played in heavy rain and wet field conditions.
The Sox defeated the Mariners 3-2 in their home opener Tuesday, improving to 3-1 after they lost their season opener to the Tigers Friday.
The Mariners and Sox are scheduled to complete the series Thursday at 1:10 p.m. A rainout Wednesday night would force the teams to play a doubleheader Thursday. The Mariners are not scheduled to play the Sox in Chicago after this series.
The Mariners play their home opener Friday night in Seattle.
