Stars in town as Edinburgh street transformed into set for hit ITV period drama

A film set for a ITV period drama was spotted on the streets of Edinburgh on Wednesday afternoon, as shooting took place in the capital.

Belgravia, a 19th century drama set in the affluent district by the same name in London, was filming for its newest series in the capital.

One New Town local, Peter Fraser, was on hand to capture some photos of the actors and actresses during breaks from shooting the ITV show.

Tamsin Greig, who is known for her comedic prowess in various sitcoms, stars as Anne Trenchard, and can be seen in the photos shared with Edinburgh Live.

BAFTA award winner Tom Wilkinson can also be spotted in his role as Peregrine Bellasis, the Earl of Brockenhurst, taking a break from filming.

The show is based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Julian Fellowes - both of which are named after Belgravia, an affluent district of London.

Belgravia begins at the Duchess of Richmond's ball, in 1815, which was held in Brussels for the Duke of Wellington on the eve of the Battle of Quatre Bras, two days before the Battle of Waterloo.

According to the plot description: "Among the guests are James and Anne Trenchard, who are living on the profits of newfound trading success.

"Their young daughter Sophia has caught the eye of Edmund Bellasis, the son and heir of one of the richest and most prominent families in England.

"Twenty-six years later, when the two families are settled into the newly developed area of Belgravia, the events of the ball, and the secrets, still resonate."

The follow-up series was announced in September 2022 following the first seasons success - it is not yet known when the second series will be released.
