Your Starfield romance options only extend to four characters in the space game, even though you get plenty of companions. Bethesda’s Todd Howard briefly touched on the topic during an interview with Kinda Funny’s Xcast and said it’s just the four main members of Constellation who have “full questlines” and are romanceable.
For comparison, Skyrim has 28 female marriage candidates and over 30 male marriage candidates. Many of them don’t have full questlines – or any quests at all – but about half a dozen or so do. Fallout 4 has seven romance options and about as many companion quests, so Starfield is a little closer to Bethesda’s most recent open-world game.
From what little we know about Starfield‘s plot, Constellation is the group that takes you from the mining company you initially start working with and sets you free to explore the galaxy, so it makes sense that most of your important relationships will be with them. Howard didn’t mention which Constellation members you can woo, though.
He did say there are quite a few companions, each of whom brings a unique skillset and attitude to your adventure across the galaxy and its 1,000 planets. Like in other Bethesda games, your choices can anger these companions and make them leave or otherwise alter their relationship with you. You can also just leave them behind, though Howard said you can’t eject them into space to get rid of them.
One viewer asked if it were possible to have a companion crew consisting entirely of robots, and Howard – though visibly confused by the question – said it’s “technically possible” if you really want to do it.
