South Dublin councillors have paid their respects to the 48 victims of the Stardust night club fire as well as their families with a minute's silence at Monday's monthly council meeting.
The councillors were led in the minute's silence by Mayor Peter Kavanagh, after the idea was proposed by Cllr Cathal King.
Cllr Kavanagh said: "It was proposed by Cllr Cathal King that we observe a minute's silence for the victims of the Stardust night club fire, the 41st anniversary of which is today to remember the 48 who never came home.
"May they rest in peace."
Families of victims gathered at the site of the nightclub fire on Sunday to remember those who lost their lives.
The fatal fire took place in Artane in the early hours of Valentine's Day in 1981, claiming 48 lives and leaving hundreds injured.
Among those also in attendance at the vigil on Sunday were folk singer Christy Moore and veteran broadcaster Charlie Bird.
Speaking at the vigil, Mr Bird encouraged families to keep fighting for justice.
The song ‘They Never Came Home’ was performed by Christy Moore, while Dublin Fire Brigade were also in attendance signalling the end of 48 seconds’ silence with a siren.
A further inquest into the fire is expected to begin in March at the Rotunda Hospital after several delays.
