Starbucks have released a pink berry hot chocolate for Valentine’s day - and it looks like Angel Delight.
After a disappointing experience with Costa’s Cupid’s Cooler, maybe Starbucks would give me all the ‘heart-eyes’ I need this February instead.
Their Berry Hot Chocolate is one of two new limited edition drinks on the Valentine’s menu, with the other being a Berry Iced Cappuccino - perfect for coffee lovers.
But I’m all for the sweet stuff, so a raspberry flavoured hot choc sounded divine, as I don’t drink coffee.
Signs outside and around the store all advertised the new menu items, with hearts drawn onto the plastic dividers put up during the pandemic, too. It was nice to see how much effort the staff had put into making their customers feel the love.
I ordered my medium Berry Hot Chocolate to drink in, and also picked up a love heart shortbread off the counter - with my total amounting to £6.70.
The cookie was just £2.50 and read ‘forever’ in cursive fondant with a little heart - very cute.
Meanwhile, my £4.20 drink was prepared and I watched as the barista poured the thick pink cold foam over my hot chocolate before passing it to me with an apology over how full it was.
The overflowing hot chocolate was, thankfully, contained by the thick layer of foam as I found a free table to enjoy it at. A few napkins later, and I was good to go.
Made with smooth hot chocolate and mocha sauce, Starbucks add raspberry syrup and steamed milk for a creamy hot choc and topped with velvety raspberry foam to make this Valentine’s special.
It certainly looked Instagrammable, with a dusting of raspberry sprinkles on top. In fact, it reminded me of Angel Delight which I loved as a kid.
The Berry Hot Chocolate smells, well, very berry - a little like the Quality Street strawberry creams.
I wasn’t expecting the texture or consistency of the cold foam, having never tried it before, but after a few sips it’s a real treat.
Beneath it, the hot chocolate is rich and creamy and I was more than happy to sip away while people-watching out of the window.
It’s a little bit sickly after a bit, so I’d recommend ordering a small - but it’s a really nice change from your regular order if you want to practice a little bit of self-love into your day.
