Star Trek Franchise Revival In The Works, New Movie Planned

Star Trek

In 2009, filmmaker J.J. Abrams advised actor Chris Pine to embody the character of James T. Kirk with 'less Shatner' as they collaborated on the Star Trek franchise reboot. Pine took on the iconic role previously portrayed by William Shatner, known for his distinctive acting style. The reboot series began with the 2009 film 'Star Trek,' followed by sequels 'Star Trek Into Darkness' and 'Star Trek Beyond.'

Pine starred as Kirk in all three films, directed by Abrams and later Justin Lin. Despite the success of the first two movies, the future of the franchise has been uncertain since 'Star Trek Beyond' in 2016, which did not perform as well at the box office.

There have been ongoing discussions about a potential fourth installment, with co-star Zoe Saldaña expressing hope for its realization. However, Pine has expressed a sense of superstition, feeling that the franchise may be 'cursed.' In a recent interview, Trevor Roth of Roddenberry Entertainment hinted at a new Star Trek movie in the works, indicating Paramount's intention to revive the film series.

Meanwhile, Pine has ventured into directing with his feature film 'Poolman,' a comedic mystery in which he stars alongside Danny DeVito. The movie is set to premiere in theaters on May 10, offering fans a different perspective on Pine's talents both in front of and behind the camera.
