The Antonio Rudiger contract saga continues. I thought that the chapter was closed, but alas, here we are again. With so much uncertainty with Chelsea football club as a whole, the last thing we need is to reopen healed wounds.
It looked like Chelsea and Rudiger were getting closer to an agreement, but recent reports suggest otherwise. The summer transfer window is drawing closer, and there are still unanswered questions surrounding his new contract.
With Andreas Christensen practically out the door alongside Cesar Azpilicueta, I fear to find out if the German rock will be following suit. This isn't an ideal position to be in with all the uncertainty.
According to reports from Sky Sports, Rudiger’s representatives have been considering other options. They have been in talks with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in what has been described as ‘constant dialogue.
The German can decide on his future as of now. He can decide to leave the club to join another, and there would be nothing Chelsea could do about it. His contract ends in summer, and considering the uncertainty lingering on Chelsea’s new ownership, he could be leaning towards an exit.
It’s one thing not meeting his wage demands, and it’s another when the owner you have played under for so many years ups and leaves. There will be much to consider for Rudiger, including the direction of the clubs.
Under Roman Abramovich, one thing was always made clear to the players. They are expected to constantly compete for the most elite trophies at the highest levels. It has always been that way, and I can only hope that it remains that way. This is also the case for Real Madrid and PSG who are currently comfortable with their ownership.
Unless Florentino Perez gives up his seat and Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani relinquishes his ownership of PSG, their clubs will have a more desirable philosophy as opposed to Chelsea's right now.
It's up to Antonio Rudiger whether or not he stays. The ball is in his court as much as it is Chelsea's. He can either take the shot blindly with Chelsea or look full on to a goal with promises that can be fulfilled. Let's face it, the new ownership situation at Chelsea is a major setback. If the buyers are not on the same wavelength as Abramovich once was, the loss of Rudiger will be the least of our problems.
Hopefully, the uncertainty with Mauricio Pochettino staying at PSG is enough to put him off.
The Blues are in a tricky situation where they can't commit to a new deal on a Rudiger when the club is up for sale. So get used to this deal not being tied up any time soon at Chelsea till we have a new owner.
