Standard’s Dispossessed campaign honoured with City warrant

The Evening Standard’s Dispossessed campaign has been recognised with a Warrant for Excellence from a City of London livery company.

The warrant was presented at a gala lunch held by the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers, the livery company for the communications and content industries.

Master of the Stationers Moira Sleight said: “The warrant is a mark of recognition to highlight excellence within our communications and content industries and this is the first time that an applicant from the media sector has been awarded one.

“The Dispossessed Campaign is a worthy recipient and the warrant is an acknowledgment of the inspiring, sustained work of the campaign and the real difference it has made and is making to lives in the capital.”

The Evening Standard launched its Dispossessed Campaign in 2010, highlighting individuals and families who had fallen between support systems in society. A front page story that day pledged: “The Evening Standard will shine a light on their plight.”

The campaign initially raised £2 million, with readers rallying to support it. Over the past 12 years, it has raised more than £50 million.

In 2021, more than £10 million was raised for London’s hungry, supporting The Felix Project which recycles surplus food to feed the hungry.
