Arsenal's transfer deadline day signing of Jorginho has been lauded as 'great business' after the midfielder joined the Gunners in a deadline day deal from Chelsea.
The £12 million transfer was sealed from Chelsea, with Edu and Mikel Arteta choosing to plug holes in the squad rather than going for big names in a crucial transfer window. Stan Kroenke also sanctioned a move for Leaondro Trossard in a £27m deal as the Gunners prepare for the Premier League title run-in over the next few months.
The signing of Jorginho was chosen in preference over pursuing a move for a younger player like Moises Caicedo from Brighton in a move which could have amounted to a fee in excess of £90m. A midfielder was needed, with the team's reliance on Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka, and Jorginho was chosen in a move which sparked into life in the final 24 hours of the transfer window.

The Italy midfielder has joined with a big reputation for winning silverware, with his time at Chelsea seeing four major trophies including the 2021 Champions League. This was followed up by a Euro 2020 win with Italy, with the double seeing the 31-year-old named UEFA Men's Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season.
A signing of such pedigree has been praised by former Arsenal academy graduate David Bentley, with the ex-England international lauding the transfer as 'great business'. Speaking to Bitcoin Casinos, Bentley said: “I think Jorginho is great business. In the current climate you are bringing a player into the dressing room that is a ‘winner’, but at £12m in the modern world I think is a bargain.
“I think in-and-around the dressing room he’s got good standards from what I hear and as a player he’s professional and I think Jorginho will be a good addition – and isn’t bad at penalties either! He’s got confidence, skill – he’s a winner and can slot into Arsenal’s way of playing.”
With Jorginho joining alongside Trossard, Arsenal adopted a different transfer strategy to recent times, with the youngest squad in the Premier League gaining two experienced players. Such a move is a switch in policy, but Bentley revealed that he thought the pair could see Arsenal over the line in the title race.
He added: “Trossard and Jorginho will help Arsenal win the league title. You can see from Trossard's opening game – I think it was at Man City – that he is a player that goes for it, who was attacking and positive. He seems like he’s slotted in really well and is technically gifted, who works hard.
“I feel that the set up at Arsenal and those behind the scene that they are making the right decisions at the right time. After making a few years of bad choices on certain players, it seems they’ve sorted themselves out, so overall I think Trossard is another great signing, along with Jorginho."
