As the owners of Liverpool and Manchester United continue to evaluate their options regarding new investment, Stan Kroenke could go down a similar path when it comes to cashing in on Arsenal in the future.
That’s according to sports finance expert, Dr. Dan Plumley, who believes that the situations surrounding Liverpool and Manchester United could prompt Kroenke to think ahead about his own sale of Arsenal.
It was announced last month that Fenway Sports Group had hired bankers to explore the sale of Liverpool, with a number of potential suitors said to be showing interest. Meanwhile, the Glazer family confirmed just weeks later that they were also willing to listen to offers for United as part of a plan to identify “strategic alternatives” moving forward.

For Stan Kroenke, the talk of sales or new investment has never been too far away, with the American businessman often facing criticism from the Arsenal fanbase over the last few years.
A lack of communication, presence and understanding of the club’s values tipped supporters over the edge when news broke that Arsenal were one of the teams to have signed up to the hugely controversial European Super League, a decision which Stan’s son, Josh, has since admitted was wrong.
The Super League fallout was then followed up by very public interest from Spotify founder Daniel Ek, who announced in a statement that an offer was made to - and rejected by - Kroenke Sports & Entertainment. The Kroenke's made it clear that they had no interest nor plans to sell up, telling Ek “they don’t need the money” before reiterating that their project in north London was only just getting started.
A year later and It’s clear to see they weren’t lying, with the £270million spent over the last two summer transfer windows undoubtedly playing a part in the success we are seeing on and off the pitch at present.
However, Plumley has reminded fans that Stan Kroenke has a tendency to upset people, claiming the 75-year-old could be looking at Liverpool and United as inspiration for a future sale of the Gunners.
“I think it’s unlikely in the near future,” the finance expert told Football Insider. “There are no real noises coming out of the club that Kroenke is willing to sell in the near future. But we know Kroenke’s background from his franchises in America. That sort of model always has an exit strategy. We know he isn’t afraid to upset a few people.
“He will also be looking to the situation at United and Liverpool. If both go for a hefty price tag, he might think the next few years are a good time to cash in. The market interest in buying a Premier League club at the top end has never been higher. These things never happen quickly, but you can’t rule it out.”
