Stalker who fitted tracking device to ex's car and slashed her tyres jailed again

A stalker who terrorised a woman in Merseyside was jailed again after failing to learn his lesson.

The ECHO has reported previously on how John Pennington targeted an ex girlfriend by slashing her tyres and fitting a tracking device to her car.

Yet despite being jailed for that vicious stalking campaign, he was sent down again last week after continuing with his terrifying behaviour.

Last year, he was wanted by Lancashire Police in connection with stalking, harassment and criminal damage allegations. At the time, police said he had links to Birkenhead and Knotty Ash as well as Preston, Penwortham and Bolton.

Officers warned members of the public not to approach him and instead to contact them. The incident came after the 39-year-old's release from prison following a jail term for targeting his ex girlfriend Kayleigh Brodie.

Unable to accept that there relationship was over, Pennington attached a device to Ms Brodie's car so he could follow her around in behaviour that carried on for months. Liverpool Crown Court heard in July 2019 that the tracking device meant he could turn up wherever Ms Brodie was, even sending her a message after she visited a kebab shop saying: "Ha ha, what's for tea?"

Describing one incident to the court, Neil Bisarya, prosecuting, said: "The tracking device was linked to the defendant’s mobile phone. On one occasion, he slashed two tyres on her car, and she tried to drive off with two deflated tyres.

"He grabbed her car keys through the car window and ran off. She was assisted by a taxi driver." Other occasions saw him speed past her aggressively on the M62 as she was heading to a police station to report him and threaten to kill her.

In a statement to the court during Pennington’s sentencing on that occasion, Brodie said his actions had destroyed her life. Faced with new stalking charges related to a different woman last year, Pennington was later arrested by Lancashire Police and released on bail.

Yet he then contacted one of his victims again, breaching a non-molestation order put in place to prevent them from being subjected to his vile abuse. A judge at Preston Crown Court jailed Pennington, of Crossford Road, for two years.
