Stagecoach won't serve one part of Merseyside as kids throw bricks

A number of Stagecoach buses have been forced to change their routes after reports of anti-social behaviour.

The bus company took to Twitter on Monday, August 8, to let customers know a number Wirral bus routes were forced to change. The number 1, 41 and 42 are all being diverted away from New Ferry due to "youths throwing bricks at passing buses".

All services will now be diverted by Bedford Road down past Bebington Railway Station, Boundary Road, back on to New Chester Road.

The tweet sent by Stagecoach said: "Birkenhead Please be aware service 1/41/42 will NOT be serving New Ferry due to youths throwing bricks at passing buses, Service will divert via Bedford Road down past Bebington Railway Station, Boundary Road, back on to New Chester Road sorry for any delays caused."

It is unclear how long this diversion will be in place for, but it may bring issues to people living in the area as there are no signs of Arriva's long-running walk-out coming to an end. The all-out strike of Arriva bus drivers will continue into its 21st day tomorrow, with no current prospect of a breakthrough.

Both sides have today confirmed to the Echo that no agreement has been reached and no new talks appear to be imminent. Talks between Arriva and the Unite and GMB unions broke down last week.

The bus operator said it was "very disappointed" that the unions walked away, but a Unite source said the latest offer represented "a new hat on an old offer, which did not impress the members." The ECHO understands that the new pay offer saw drivers with over 5 years experience being offered an increase of around 9.6%, but would have seen drivers with less than five years under their belts offered just 7.5%.

The unions have pointed out that this works out on the whole as very similar to the 8.5% across the board offer that had previously been rejected.
