
Being a woman in the UK has rarely felt so unsafe. Rape cases are on the rise: in addition to increasing year on year, in 2023, they made up 35 per cent of all sexual offences recorded by the police. Despite that, the chances of ever seeing a successful conviction are slim: 5 per cent, as of 2021.
It’s a travesty. And yet, it’s hardly ever discussed in the media. Appetite for tackling one of the most thorny subjects in UK law, apparently, is low – but Stacey Dooley is tackling it head on.
