Stabbing victim in hospital as police arrest man

A man remains in hospital after being stabbed in the back and bicep in Southport.

Emergency services were called to West Street at around 9pm on Thursday, April 7 after reports of an assault. At the scene they found a man had been stabbed near the junction of Coronation Walk.

The victim, in his 50s, was said to have suffered injuries that were not believed to be serious. He remains in hospital for treatment where police said he was in a stable condition.

This morning, a Merseyside police spokesperson confirmed a man had been arrested in connection with the stabbing. They said: "We have arrested a 37 year-old man on suspicion of S18 assault and he is currently in custody."

A cordon remains in place today as the investigation remains ongoing and forensic enquiries continue. Anybody who has any information, CCTV or dashcam footage is asked to contact Merseyside Police by calling 101 with the reference MP/20220407/0921.
