St Pauls, Easton & Lawrence Hill newsletter: Sign up for free email updates covering inner city Bristol

Although Bristol can sometimes feel like a village, it is a diverse, expanding and ever-changing city.

There is a lot going on, but not everything happening will always make the mainstream news, however important it might be.

That's why we're launching a set of brand new, community-focused newsletters so that you never miss a story which matters to you.

Our St Pauls, Easton & Lawrence Hill newsletter will put the spotlight on what matters to people living in the inner city areas, which also includes Barton Hill, Redfield, Whitehall, Greenbank, St Philips Marsh, Newtown, St Judes, The Dings and Old Market.

When you sign up to the free newsletter you will be able to see all the news published that week concerning your neighbourhood and much more on top of that.

The inner city of Bristol is bustling with activity, amazing people and organisations that help bring communities together but in our fast-paced, modern world they don’t always get the recognition they deserve. With the weekly newsletter we will bring the heart of the community into the spotlight.

The last few years have been challenging to say the least, many have lost loved ones to the pandemic while others have felt the strain of the increased isolation Covid has caused.

Our communities suffer from poor housing, rising living costs, unemployment, underemployment and the general strain caused from the decline of wages in real terms, alongside benefit cuts and sanctions. It’s easy to feel forgotten and voiceless with continuous budget cuts, astronomical rents and the many challenges people face on top of that; from racism to disability discrimination to health inequalities.

Despite the challenges which are important to highlight, the silver lining comes with the support and community spirit we see around us everyday, giving us a renewed sense of hope that doesn’t always make it into the headlines.

Our inner city communities are diverse in every sense of the word, which is something we can all celebrate. From the grand Iftar, to St Pauls Carnival to the numerous voluntary organisations, we have so much to value and take pride in.

We can give more attention to the people and organisations who are silent heroes, quietly contributing to improving the lives of their friends and neighbours. We can find out more about our local business or residents in our area who just have interesting stories to tell.

Whether you have lived here for one year or your family has been here for centuries, there is always more to learn and discover about your neighbourhood. We can share the love given by those dedicated to helping others by highlighting their work and helping you feel a greater sense of connection, letting you know about how you can get involved.

This is a new project that is still developing and we welcome your input and feedback. If there is anything you would like to to include such as an event, person or place you believe should be highlighted, please get in touch with me, Yvonne Deeney.
