St Patrick's Day Dublin weather: Washout coming for city as Met Eireann predicts 'heavy and prolonged' showers

St Patrick's Day paradegoers across Dublin are in for a washout according to the latest Met Eireann forecast.

The weather service issued the grim update in their latest forecast with Friday predicted to be a "showery" day, with some spells of rain expected to be "heavy and prolonged".

But following an unsettled and cold last week, the Arctic blast seems to be over as temperatures are set to rise slightly.

The weather for today is set to be mild and breezy with sunny spells and showers, some heavy and prolonged, with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 or 16 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

Tonight is set to be have some scattered outbreaks of rain, in a moderate southerly airflow, stronger along southern coasts. It will be another relatively mild night with lows of 8 to 10 degrees.

Current indications suggest it will be a showery day on St. Patrick's Day. There will be a mix of sunny spells and showers, some of heavy and prolonged. It will be relatively mild with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 or 16 degrees, in moderate to fresh southerly winds with best values away from southern counties.

Friday night will be a mix of clear spells and slow moving showers with some mist and fog locally as the winds slacken, with lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees.
