Coventry City defender Jay McGrath has joined St Patrick’s Athletic on loan until the summer.
The Saints were keen to bolster their defensive ranks after the close season departures of Barry Cotter, Paddy Barrett, Ben Curtis and Ian Bermingham, who retired.
Centre-back McGrath, 19, has captained Coventry’s Under-21s having joined on a two-year deal in 2020 from non-league Mickleover FC.
McGrath is awaiting international clearance but St Pat’s hope to include him in their squad for Friday’s league opener at home to Derry City.
He trained with the Saints for the first time on Monday and boss Tim Clancy said today: “We’re probably a little bit short in the central defensive area,
“Jay’s a very good young player, he's a good size and very good physically. He's quite aggressive and is also a left footer, which will give us good balance in the team.”
McGrath said: “I've been wanting to get out on loan and as soon as I heard St Pat's were interested I was really happy to join the club.”
