NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has summoned the district collector of Jalgaon in Maharashtra on February 3 to its headquarters in Delhi for failing to submit an action taken report over a complaint alleging unlawful purchase of land belonging to tribals by a private company leaving the tribals in a state of penury. The land under scrutiny is spread over 184 acres.
A representation was received by the commission last year where the complainant made allegations against a private company for purchasing land belong to tribals by allegedly resorting to illegal practices and financially cheating the tribal families living on the land involved. The NCST had issued a notice on December 6 seeking a report within 15 days. However, the district authorities have not responded till date, officials said.
Following up on the matter, NCST earlier this month issued summons to the current district collector Aman Mittal to appear before the commission’s member Ananta Nayak this week on Friday. The summons clearly state that the failure to comply with this order will lead to action as per the provisions of the law applicable in such matters under the Code of Civil Procedure.
