Stephen Robinson insists he won’t tear up the script that’s served his Buddies so well so far this season.
St Mirren head into tonight’s clash with St Johnstone after back-to-back away defeats against Hibs and Ross County.
The Paisley side have been much stronger at home than on the road so far this season, with the club still sitting seventh in the table after a promising start to the campaign.
And while Robinson admits he might tinker with his team selection to reward some fringe players who have waited patiently for an opportunity, he won’t be deviating from the system that’s delivered six wins in their opening 13 league games.
Robinson told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “You have to remember this is one of St Mirren’s best ever starts since this format of the Premiership began, certainly since we came back into the top flight in 2018.
“We’ve had a great start and we’re going to have bumps in the road. We don’t have a squad that can cope with losing four or five players to injury. We can’t afford to work that way.
"We have to take the positives from the Ross County game. We scored two good goals, one great goal from Strain.
“We had a stonewall penalty turned down as well that wasn’t even reviewed by VAR. Clear and obvious must be different to what I think it is.
“There are points we can be better at and we won’t brush it under the carpet. We’ve got boys who want to keep learning and improving. You don’t rip up the script because you’ve lost two games.”
Robinson added: “The boys playing have been very good, but there’s boys like Greg Kiltie, Joe Shaughnessy and Alex Greive who have been very, very patient.
“Alex especially, having scored three goals and trained brilliantly every day. We’ve got options.
“We’ve got Toyosi Olusanya back training as well. He’s not fully fit, but he could be an option for 15 minutes off the bench.
“There’s real competition for places now which is important.”
