St Mirren Women produced a performance Len Goodman would be proud of after hitting Gleniffer Thistle for a perfect 10.
But it’s taking on the top five SWF League One teams after the split that’s got the Buddies pumped up for end of the season.
The Saints put in a sublime showing to thump Paisley rivals Gleniffer on Sunday afternoon.
Striker Kelly Ross bagged an impressive four, Helen McLeod picked up her first hat-trick for the club, recent recruit Beth Howie netted on her first start and Maxine Fury bagged herself a brilliant brace.
While understandably delighted with the sensational scoreline, head coach Kate Cooper is more excited about what’s still to come for St Mirren.
Having secured a top-half finish, they’ll now take on the five best teams in the division one more time.
And Cooper is looking forward to seeing how her side have progressed as they look to end their impressive campaign with a flourish.
She told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “We were dominant throughout the whole game. It was a very strong performance.
“One of our main goals this season was to get into the top six so we’re delighted to have achieved that.
“Now it’s all about pushing on for us and seeing what we can achieve in our last five games.
“We’d much rather be playing the top teams in the division rather than racking up big scorelines.
“We’ve moved onto another level now and the challenge in football is always to keep progressing. If you stand still, you actually end up moving back the way because teams around you are still improving.
“It’s a huge five games for us coming up and we’re not just there to make up the numbers.
“The way we finish this season will set us up for next season, so there’s a lot to play for and we’re all excited for the games ahead.”
St Mirren are without a fixture this weekend, with the few remaining League One fixtures wrapping up before the final five fixtures are confirmed.
While likely out of contention for a promotion spot, Cooper is looking forward to playing a key part in the final standings as the Saints look to finish as high up the table as they possibly can.
Cooper said: “I want us to keep pushing on and it’ll be interesting to see how we match up with the best teams in the coming weeks.
“We had a run of fixtures earlier this year against the top five teams, so we will be comparing it to that to see how far we’ve progressed.
“We will have a big influence on the overall standings and there’s an excitement in the group that we’re competing at the top end of the table now.
“That certainly wasn’t the case last season and now we need to have the courage to go into our remaining games positively and take the game to each team.
“We want to deliver results at that level. That’s the next step for us as a group.”
