Buddies hoping to see their club back in action after the long World Cup break will have to wait a little longer after their clash with Motherwell was postponed.
St Mirren were set to travel to North Lanarkshire tomorrow afternoon to take on the Steelmen in their first game since Saturday, November 12 when they drew 1-1 with Rangers.
The likelihood of the match going ahead appeared to be higher as temperatures today rose for the first time.
But Motherwell released a statement informing the Paisley club that the game could no longer go ahead due to “extensive stadium damage and flooding caused by recent cold weather.”
Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows explained: "I am sorry to any fans excited for tomorrow’s game.
"We still have loads of the stand frozen (so no running water or heating), and those parts which have started thawing have caused extensive flooding damage across the stadium.
"We wanted to give people as much notice as we can and we’ll work hard to get things cleaned up and fixed (it will get worse before it gets better) before next Friday night.
"Sorry again to those who were excited about getting back. Our hospitality was sold out and we were expecting a big crowd, so it’s very frustrating, but the safety of people coming to the match is our principle concern."
A St Mirren spokesperson added that “details on the amended fixture will be announced in due course.”
Saints fans will now have to wait until next weekend to see their side take to the pitch again, with Jim Goodwin’s Aberdeen set to visit the SMiSA Stadium on Christmas Eve.
