Former St Mirren goalkeeper Billy Thomson has passed away at the age of 64.
Thomson was a huge fan favourite for his impressive performances between the sticks at Love Street, making 284 appearances in all competitions for the Paisley club after joining from Partick Thistle for £50,000.
Often competing with Campbell Money for the number one spot in the late 1970's and early 80s, Thomson played a key role as the Buddies challenged at the top of the First Division table. He also played a big part when the club lifted the Anglo-Scottish Cup after beating Bristol City in the final in Paisley in 1980.
Thomson picked up seven Scotland caps during his memorable spell with the Saints, also impressing on the continent as the Buddies competed in the UEFA Cup.
A St Mirren spokesperson said: "St Mirren Football Club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Billy Thomson at the age of 64. Our condolences are with the family and friends of Billy at this sad time."
The goalkeeper would go on to join Dundee United, where he'd play in two Scottish Cup finals - the first of which was lost to former club St Mirren in 1987. He also played in the Tannadice club's incredible run to the UEFA Cup final in 1987.
The talented keeper went on to play for Rangers and Dundee, also enjoying a long spell at Ibrox at the Glasgow club's goalkeeping coach.
