St Mirren legends of the past came together to bid farewell to their former team-mate and friend Frank McGarvey.
The former Saints hero sadly passed away on New Year’s Day following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was laid to rest this afternoon at St Anthony’s Church in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, with friends and family filling the church for his Requiem Mass.
Among those paying tribute were ex-Saints stars Frank McAvennie, Kenny McDowall, Chic Charnley, Campbell Money and Iain Munro.
Former St Mirren managers Ricky McFarlane and David Hay were also in attendance, along with current Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou and former Hoops heroes John Clark, Murdo MacLeod, Tom Boyd, Charlie Nicholas and Danny McGrain.
Saints legend Tony Fitzpatrick, a close friend of Frank’s who had visited him several times in the weeks leading to his passing, was also in attendance and delivered a heartfelt reading during the service.
Speaking ahead of the funeral earlier this month, Fitzpatrick said: “He was very well loved by the Saints fans. He loved the club so much and, even though he was a Celtic legend, he often said his best days were his first spell with us.”
McGarvey joined the Paisley club back in December 1974 after being spotted by legendary former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
The prolific forward went on to fire the Saints into the top flight in 1977 before also helping them lift the Scottish Cup ten years later.
