St Mirrens fans are waiting with bated breath for news about their manager Jim Goodwin’s future as Aberdeen look to wrap up their hunt for a new boss.
The Dons have been carrying out interviews over the course of the week since sacking Stephen Glass after just 11 months at the helm.
Those concluded yesterday, with Goodwin having already quickly emerged as one of their main targets.
That was despite any move for the Saints manager requiring the north east club to part with a significant compensation fee - given he still has two years to run on his three-year contract. It is believed to be around £250,000.
Former Buddies boss Jack Ross has also held talks about taking over at Pittodrie, with a number of other candidates under consideration too.
Highly-rated Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen knocked back the opportunity to replace Glass on Wednesday, leaving Goodwin as the frontrunner for the post.
It remains to be seen whether the Saints club legend will be offered the job, with the Aberdeen board set to meet today to discuss their preferred candidate.
St Mirren manager Goodwin has always spoken openly about his ambition to progress up the managerial ladder as far as he possibly can.
Losing him now would be a big blow for the Buddies, as they look to cement a place in the top six and with a Scottish Cup quarter-final tie against Hearts early next month
