St Mirren fans asked to decide if club should keep giving Rangers and Celtic two stands

St Mirren fans will have their say on whether or not to allow Celtic and Rangers supporters two stands when the pair visit Paisley next season.

The Buddies currently relocate home supporters in the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand to ensure they fill both it and the North Stand on matchdays against the Old Firm.

That has increasingly become an issue with some sections of the Saints support, with the club previously arguing the revenue brought in by visiting Celtic and Rangers supporters was a strong enough reason to keep going ahead with the move.

St Mirren chairman John Needham has been working on a list of possible solutions alongside a working group.

Having been announced previously, the options are now being put to the club’s key supporters to allow them to decide on which path to take going forward.

John said: “A topic of discussion that we know many fans are passionate about is the retention of our three home stands for all fixtures.

“I established a working group to consider our options and present a paper so the board could make an informed decision on the best way to proceed for the coming season.

“They delivered a well thought out report and I want place on record my thanks to the fans involved in the process for their dedication and commitment to considering all of the angles.

“Essentially, we have a list of potential approaches with various pros and cons.

“We now want to engage with our supporters for their input on how best to proceed via a survey during the close season before making a decision on how to move forward.

“I hope you will see this as a real example of fan ownership and community engagement in action.”

John added: “Following the input from the working group surrounding the retention of the three stands, we have invited season ticket holders, SMiSA members and registered fans who attend matches to participate in a short questionnaire.

“All participants will receive an email with a link to the questionnaire and further information regarding the consultation. We thank you for your ongoing support.

“Once we receive your feedback, we will consider it carefully and announce our final decision before the start of the season.”
