St Johnstone vs Celtic score predicted by simulation for Premiership clash at McDiarmid Park

Celtic return to Scottish Premiership action this weekend when they face St. Johnstone on Saturday afternoon.

The Hoops were defeated 3-1 by RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, with the defeat leaving Ange Postecoglou's side bottom of Group F. Since the 4-0 victory over Rangers at the start of September, Celtic have won just one of their last five games in all competitions.

But, history falls in Celtic's favour for their clash with St. Johnstone, with their last defeat against Saturday's opposition coming way back in 2012. The last meeting between the two sides ended in a 7-0 victory for the Hoops.

Callum McGregor looks set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury in the defeat against Leipzig, though the midfielder was suspended for Saturday's clash, anyway. Cameron Carer-Vickers and Carl Starfelt remain doubts, with the American closer to a return than the Swede.

So, could Celtic return to winning ways on Saturday? We used FIFA 23 to try and predict the score, and this is what happened!

St. Johnstone vs Celtic score predicted by simulation

To complete this simulation, we used FIFA 23 and updated the Celtic squad with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that the hosts could set up in a 3-4-1-2 formation, with their line-up as follows: Matthews; Gordon, Mitchell, Considine; Wright, McGowan, Hallberg, Brown; Murphy; Clark, May.

We predict that the Hoops could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Hart; Juranovic, Jenz, Welsh, Taylor; Abildgaard, Hatate, O'Riley; Abada, Giakoumakis, Maeda.

Celtic started the game in dominant fashion, with St. Johnstone struggling to get hold of the ball in the opening stages. Postecoglou's side created plenty of dangerous changes, and Daizen Maeda scored the opener with a fantastic finish.

Georgios Giakoumakis received the ball with his back to goal inside the box, but instead of turning and shooting, the striker laid the ball off for Maeda to attack. The Japanese forward hit his effort first time, and the ball curled away from goal before swerving into the top corner of the net.

It was a killer finish, leaving the 'keeper with no chance. Celtic were pressing the hosts high up the pitch and forcing them into many mistakes, and on the stroke of half-time, the Hoops found a second from a St. Johnstone error.

As Liam Gordon pushed out of defence, the defender rushed his pass under pressure, straight into the path of Matthew O'Riley. The midfielder surged forward with the ball before finding Giakoumakis in space, and the striker drilled a powerful effort into the roof of the net to double the lead.

At the end of the first half, Celtic had managed seven shots to the hosts' one, showing how dominant they had been. Just after the break, O'Riley grabbed his side's third of the game to all but confirm the three points.

After cutting in from the left, Maeda slid a pass across the box for O'Riley to chase, and the midfielder latched onto the pass before firing past the 'keeper at the near post. With just three minutes remaining, Maeda grabbed his second and Celtic's fourth with a header from a corner to top off a great afternoon.

FIFA 23 predicted final score: St. Johnstone 0-4 Celtic

Here are the full-time match stats.

FT stats from Celtic's 4-0 win over St. Johnstone on FIFA 23 (EA SPORTS FIFA)

FIFA 23 predicts that a dominant display from Celtic could see the Hoops ease to a 4-0 win over St. Johnstone. Celtic's quality in attack proved too much for the hosts to deal with, with Maeda and O'Riley the standouts performers.
