St Johnstone are set to complete the signing of former Liverpool and Southampton defender Oludare Olufunwa.
The 21-year-old was snapped up by Jurgen Klopp’s Reds last season on a free transfer after he was released by Southampton following a stint in the club’s Under-23 side.
Olufunwa was added to Anfield Academy as defensive cover and was subsequently released from the set-up this summer.
The quick defender previously held trials with Burton Albion, Bristol Rovers and Plymouth Argyle before opting for a move to Perth.
Herald and Times Sport understands that a two-year deal has been agreed and the transfer should be confirmed later this week.
Steven MacLean is desperate to add numbers to his St Johnstone squad after a disastrous League Cup campaign was concluded with a 4-0 defeat to Stirling Albion at the weekend.
Saints will likely have both Olufunwa and former Chelsea defender Sam McClelland in their ranks for Saturday’s Scottish Premiership opener against Hearts at McDiarmid Park.
McClelland, also 21, was released by Chelsea last month upon the expiry of his contract and he will now link up with Saints on a two-year deal.
He played 30 games on loan at Barrow in England’s League Two last season and he has also been capped by Northern Ireland on the international stage.
