St Johnstone confirm Dimitar Mitov signing as Steven MacLean secures new goalkeeper

Steven MacLean has snapped up his first St Johnstone summer signing with goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov putting pen to paper with the Perth club.

The Bulgarian joins Saints to challenge Ross Sinclair for the No.1 jersey at McDiarmid Park on a two-year deal.

Having risen through the ranks of his youth club, Chavdar Etropole, the shotstopper soon caught the attention of scouts from across Europe.

He subsequently showcased his abilities at both the domestic and youth international levels, earning caps at U16 and U19 level with Bulgaria.

The 26-year-old joins us having spent six years at his former club, Cambridge. In his final season at the Abbey Stadium he played a huge part in retaining the club's League 1 status after a dramatic survival push.

Speaking to SaintsTV, Mitov said: "I'm delighted to get the deal over the line and I can't wait to get started.

"I had a few different opportunities to go to different clubs but the option of coming here for a completely different challenge is one I couldn't turn down.

"Conversations with the manager were brilliant, he explained his vision for what he wants and it made the decision even easier.

"I want to achieve as much as I can here personally but also help the team as much as possible. It's a great club and I can't wait to get going."
