St Johnstone are closing in on a deal to sign Sligo Rovers' star John Mahon.
The Perth Saints have agreed a deal - believed to be worth in the region of €125,000 - with the Bit O' Red and are now in talks with their star asset.
Saints boss Callum Davidson is looking to land one of the best young defenders in the League of Ireland.
Davidson has turned to Mahon after Norwegian Niklas Gunnarsson stalled over a move to McDiarmid Park.
Saints have now decided to put the hard cash up for the former Ireland Under-21 international.
They hope to get terms agreed and a deal in place quickly for the talented 22-year-old who signed a new two year deal with Sligo last month.
Mahon attracted the interest of both Celtic and Rangers when he first broke into the Sligo team.
It is likely he will be the second player Sligo have sold to Scotland in this window, as Celtic signed striker Johnny Kenny earlier this month.
Saints have already turned to Ireland in this window to sign fellow defender Daniel Cleary from Dundalk.
The Perth side are also trying to sign winger Alan Forrest from Livingston this month.
They are close to a pre-contract for the former Ayr United player but would be keen to bring him to McDiarmid Park before the close of the window.
