St Cuthbert Wanderers boss Jordan Williamson admits his team put in one of their poorest displays of the season on Saturday.
The Kirkcudbright side lost their local derby with Threave Rovers in the League Cup thanks to an Aiden Kerr goal.
But while disappointed to lose, Williamson wasn’t too concerned – especially as Wanderers had knocked Threave out of the Haig Gordon Cup just a few days earlier.
He said: “Wednesday was the priority – if we lost that we were out of a competition whereas on Saturday if we lost we weren’t necessarily out.
“I think the intensity of Wednesday night maybe had taken the intensity levels out of Saturday.
“It was one of our poorer performances this season. I don’t think we were good enough and I thought both teams were
poor.
“There weren’t a lot of chances and it was very scrappy.
“I’d have liked to see us create more opportunities but it was one of those bad days and we just need to write it off.
“We’re disappointed we didn’t reach the levels we have in previous games against them but I’m more interested in making sure boys are up to fitness.
“It was another opportunity to change the team and give boys a run out.”
The defeat makes it difficult, but not impossible, for Saints to progress from their League Cup group.
They beat Creetown on Wednesday night and now host Stranraer on Saturday.
But Williamson is more focused on other competitions.
He added: “It gives us the option to look at games and whether we change the system so as to give us the best possible chance when we hit mid April with the heavy run in to the end of the month.
“We have a big, big month ahead in April and hopefully a packed, full May so we know the importance of using the early stage of this competition to make sure boys are fit.
“We’ll be continuing in that vein against Stranraer.
We have a selection of action shots from the match.
