The owner of two parrots who shattered the peace of a neighbourhood has been ordered to move them inside his £700,000 art deco villa.
Birds Charlie and Bella, whose 100 decibel squawking has been compared with the sound of a jackhammer and helicopter, have been forced indoors after a court ruled against retired farmer Iain Gauld.
He has been told the macaws can no longer be kept in a cage in his garden in Blairgowrie, Perthshire.
Justice of the Peace Geoffrey Daniel granted an Annoying Creatures application brought by Iain’s next door neighbour John Watson.
John’s wife Liz said: “The noise would give you a jolt when you hear it.”
His lawyer, Jamie Baxter, told the court: “They are the third loudest type of macaw, at just over 100 decibels.
"That sort of level is equivalent to a large lawnmower, a jackhammer, or a jet at 1000 feet, or helicopter at 100 feet.”
But Karen Adam of the Scottish Parrot Trust, giving evidence for the defence, said: “I don’t think I could live in a house with jackhammers or helicopters.”
Making his ruling, Mr Daniel said: “It is clear that Mr Watson and some of his neighbours are not able to fully enjoy life at their properties in the summer months.”
