A crucial Tottenham Hotspur attacker could play World Cup football this summer, depending on his performances during the team’s relegation battle.
The Spurs man could be crucial in his team’s fight to ensure Premier League survival, with just six games remaining this season before the World Cup 2026 kicks off.
Tottenham Hotspur are positioned 18th in the Premier League table on 30 points, with West Ham and Nottingham Forest just above the drop zone on 32 and 33 points respectively.
World Cup incentive could light fire inside Spurs man
The North London club’s latest match came in the form of a 1-0 loss away at 10th-placed Sunderland, with the deciding goal coming from Nordi Mukiele.
That result meant Tottenham Hotspur’s recent form has amounted to just three points in their last 10 Premier League matches.
In that time, Tottenham Hotspur attacker Randal Kolo Muani has contributed to four goals - two strikes in the Champions League against Frankfurt and Atletico Madrid, an assist against Liverpool and a goal against Arsenal.
That consolation effort in a 4-1 loss against league leaders and London derby rivals Arsenal was Kolo Muani’s first of the Premier League season, with 24 games played.
As was his assist against Liverpool – where Tottenham Hotspur got their only point under Igor Tudor – a first for the Frenchman to bring his Premier League goal involvement tally to two.
Kolo Muani’s season hasn’t been totally hopeless, only domestically, boasting an impressive six goal involvements in nine Champions League matches.
The forward’s best performance came against reigning champions, and his current employers, PSG, scoring two and assisting one in a 5-3 loss against the French side.
According to a report from GFFN, Kolo Muani is the favourite to be called up to Didier Deschamps’ France squad ahead of the World Cup 2026.
The need for a player follows news of Hugo Ekitike’s Achilles tendon rupture, which will see the Frenchman miss not just the World Cup, but large parts of next season.
Kolo Muani, currently on loan at Tottenham Hotspur from PSG, will battle AC Milan’s Christopher Nkunku and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta for a place, however, he is perceived to be the frontrunner after retaining the trust of Deschamps despite a struggling season.
His competition is fiercer than it may seem, with Mateta scoring two goals in just three appearances for Les Bleus, meaning that Kolo Muani will require a strong end to the season both individually and with his team to ensure a place on the World Cup stage.
Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action in their home clash against ninth-placed Brighton on Saturday.
