Spurs Announce Gregg Popovich Suffered 'Mild Stroke'

The San Antonio Spurs announced that head coach Gregg Popovich suffered a “mild stroke” on Nov. 2 inside the team’s home arena of Frost Bank Center. Popovich has not coached since then, with assistant Mitch Johnson taking his place for the time being. The Spurs said Popovich is “expected to make a full recovery” and has already begun the rehabilitation process.

Popovich, 75, has guided San Antonio to five championships over his 29 years as head coach. The Spurs said there is no timeline for his return to coaching at the moment. They’ll next take the floor without him when they face the Washington Wizards on Wednesday evening.
