NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday held a prima facie view that the exemptions from compliance of the National Sports Development Code of India 2011 granted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) to the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) are not in furtherance of equestrian sport and may not be sustainable.
Hearing a plea by the Rajasthan Equestrian Association (REA) praying for the Court to quash the ministry’s notification of November 9, 2021, which granted EFI exemptions from certain key provisions of the sports code, Justice Yashwant Varma expressed that none of the exemptions granted appear to benefit the equestrian sports and directed the respondents (EFI & Union of India) to file a written response to the writ petition.
