Sporting to hold firm over Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards amid Tottenham transfer links

Sporting manager Ruben Amorim insists the club do not fear interest from Tottenham in Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards.

Standard Sport understands Spurs have cast keen eyes over Porro in particular, with Antonio Conte keen to strengthen his options at wing-back.

Edwards, meanwhile, has impressed in the Portuguese capital since leaving Spurs on a permanent basis in the summer of 2019.

The 24-year-old scored against Conte’s side in the Champions League back in October and has been linked with a move back to north London.

Porro is believed to have a release clause worth around £39.7m in his contract, while Edwards’ reportedly stands at around £52m.

Conte is likely to expect signings during this month’s transfer window but it remains to be seen if Daniel Levy and managing director Fabio Paratici will back the Italian amid doubts about his long-term future.

Speaking to Record, Amorim said: “We are not as attractive a league as others and we cannot pay the same wages. This is a problem, even in relation to Portuguese clubs we have this difficulty.

“As was said, they only leave for the clause. We are ready. We know the amount of attacks that go through Porro and Edwards, nobody is blind here. But the market is what it is.”
