Halloween is fright night, but for some people, terrifying happenings don't just occur on October 31.
From seeing ghouls staring back at you in the mirror to things that go bump in the night, there is no shortage of tales of the unexplained.
And some of the most frightening relate to baby monitors - cameras designed to watch little ones sleep, but that sometimes capture more than you expect.
Ghostly visits
A mum was convinced the ghost of her grandparent visited her baby after she spotted objects moving on footage captured by a baby monitor.
Parents Cheryl Scott and Robert Thorrat, from Drongan in East Ayrshire, Scotland, put their son Scott down to sleep but said they later realised something strange had gone one.
Looking back at the video a few nights later, the pair said they saw two floating objects appear above their child's cot before the baby monitor itself suddenly spins round to face a light that Cheryl claims hadn't been left on.
The family live in the home previously owned by her grandparents, and the mum told the Record: "I believe in ghosts but nothing like this has ever happened before.
"We can watch baby monitor videos on our phone, and we looked through Saturday night's clip on Tuesday night. We noticed the two floating objects that had never been there before.
"Then all of a sudden the camera spun right round, which never happens, it's fixed facing Scott. It turns to face a light that we didn't switch on.
"It's as if you can see a hand waving between the chest of drawers and the cot.
"I definitely think a ghost visited. Robert didn't believe in ghosts but now he's not so sure."
Paranormal disturbances
Footage from a baby monitor showed an 'anomaly' move across the screen and appear to wake a young child - with some claiming it to be 'paranormal activity'.
The video showed a tot asleep in his cot when a transparent effect appears to rise from the bottom of the screen to the top, just as the child begins to stir.
It was uploaded to a page dedicated to ghost videos on Reddit by Cyn32286 with the title: "Second baby monitor video anomaly?"
The parent said they have seven more videos appearing to show the same thing happen both during the daytime and at night, and first noticed it after spotting the figure "go in and out quite a few times".
Although some viewers argued it was likely nothing more than a particle of dust floating past the camera, many others were left convinced it was something far more ghostly
One commented: "Yep that's probably the baby's Guardian Angel, or it could be a loved one who has passed over."
A second wrote: "It's odd how, to me anyway, it seems to move from bottom to top? Dust would normally float by from left to right etc. That does seem like someone was checking in on your cute little one."
Another replied: "The baby definitely felt that. Really weird."
Ghoulish gathering
A thoroughly spooked-out mum captured what she believed to be two spirits interacting on her baby monitor.
Jade Yates uploaded the clip to Facebook, saying she didn't believe in ghosts "until about five minutes ago".
The mum took a video of her baby monitor, which was filming her daughter, Ruby, in bed. She explained that Ruby was the sleeping baby in the top left of the cot - but said there was a rather mysterious 'presence' alongside her.
Jade insisted that the room to Ruby's door was shut and there was nobody else in there, which goes little way to explaining the pale white figure sitting up in the bed.
She had her own theory, saying: "What I see is a baby older than Ruby, as it's able to sit up/stand up, and an adult attending to this baby/Ruby.
"I can see on some angles an ear, eyes and an arm..
She added that "Ruby was not unsettled at all but she does wake every hour or so at night" before suggesting that a ghost "wanting to play" could be the reason why.
"I don't think they are nasty as the adult looks to be so attentive."
Jade said she had been watching what she believed to be two spirits for about 20 minutes before going to check on her daughter and thinks she 'disturbed' them, as they were gone when she came back to view the monitor.
Sinister mist
A freaked-out dad was horrified to find a ghostly light floating over his eight week-old baby's cot.
The incident, which was caught on the baby monitor, showed Jonathan Murphy leaning over baby Rosie after entering her bedroom.
As he did so a misty white light appeared in the top left hand part of the screen before a distinctive white orb-shape began to float to and from over Rosie.
At one point the orb passed very close to Mr Murphy during the spooky incident at their home in Consett, County Durham.
Mr Murphy told the Mirror that he had gone up to check on the baby when he first noticed the white light.
After coming downstairs he and partner Victoria Snowdon, 22, watched the recording the monitor had taken which confirmed what he had seen.
He said: "The first thing I thought was 'is that a ghost.' I know it seems like a joke, but it's inexplicable. We still don't know what it could be.
"No cars were passing by and we keep the room dark."
Mr Murphy, a betting shop manager, went back upstairs after watching the video and saw the light was still there.
"It must have lasted about a minute to a minute-and-a-half in total," he said.
He said the couple were 'completely freaked out' by what they had seen.
"Victoria was reluctant to let me take the baby back upstairs again," he said.
"She was even more worried by it than me."
