‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ trailer launch live — watch now for a sneak peek at Spidey's fourth MCU movie

Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man in "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" trailer.

It's here, it's finally here! “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is set to land in theaters in just a few weeks (on July 31), and the movie’s second official trailer dropped today.

Tom Holland’s fourth outing as the web-slinger (not counting appearances in team-up MCU movies like “Avengers” and “Civil War”) will pick up where 2021’s “No Way Home” left off. The world has forgotten Spider-Man’s identity, allowing him to fight crime across NYC anonymously, but it has also created personal heartbreak, as he’s without his girlfriend, MJ (Zendaya). Meanwhile, a powerful new threat is on the scene, causing chaos across the Big Apple.

There’s no denying that the MCU has been increasingly stagnant in recent years. However, fans are hopeful that “Brand New Day” will inject some much-needed life into the superhero franchise ahead of the highly anticipated “Avengers: Doomsday,” which will release in December.

Watch the trailer below and read on for our thoughts, theories and more updates from around the MCU.

LIVE UPDATES

Welcome, web-heads!

Hello! Good morning to Spider-Man fans everywhere, welcome to Tom's Guide's live coverage ahead of the expected release of the new trailer for "Brand New Day." If the reports are accurate, we should have our latest look at Tom Holland and Zendaya return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in just a few hours, so let's swing into all the news and updates ahead of this anticipated new trailer.

Why not (re)watch the first trailer to get in the mood!

Ahead of the expected drop of the new "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" trailer, now's a great time to revisit the first trailer. Released back in March, and having amassed nearly 40 million views since, it gives us our first insight into Holland's Peter Parker's latest adventure. And frankly, it's sold me on the film already!

Home is out, hello Day?

Looking back at the previous Holland-fronted Spider-Man trilogy, all three movies incorporated "Home" into the title ("Homecoming," "Far From Home," No Way Home"). I presume in an effort to signify this is a new start for this incarnation of the character, "Brand New Day" has dropped the "Home" motif, which has left me pondering, will "Day" be the moniker that links together the next wave of Spidey flicks? Yes, I'm getting ahead of myself, but it's fun to speculate about the future.

A fresh face behind the camera!

While Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon (as Peter Parker's best-friend Ned) are all returning from the previous "Home" trilogy, there's some new blood behind the camera in the form of Destin Daniel Cretton.

The American filmmaker replaces Jon Watts who helmed Holland's previous three Spider-Man films. Cretton is most known for directing MCU movie "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" (pictured above), as well as creating the underrated Marvel show "Wonder Man." He also directed various dramas including "The Glass Castle," "Just Mercy" and the excellent "Short Term 12."

There's something of a production-line quality about MCU movies in general, so stylistically I wouldn't expect a radical departure in "Brand New Day" but it will be interesting to see how Cretton's Spider-Man differs from what we got from Watts.

Samsung launches SpideyTracker ahead of Brand New Day trailer 2

It's been confirmed that "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" will incorporate various Samsung Galaxy smartphones (please, let this product placement be subtle), and the titan tech has also teamed up with Sony to launch SpideyTracker.com.

The announcement press release states: "Fans can join in on the interactive campaign, follow Spider-Man sightings and engage with the story in real time, while connecting to a shared community experience." It also promises to "expand the narrative beyond the film," offering cast appearances, interviews, content drops, hidden easter eggs, fan-submitted sightings and more.

It all links to a plot point in the movie in which Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) creates the "SpideyTracker" in hopes of discovering the superhero's secret identity. The web app is set to go live later today (June 17), and you can also follow @SpideyTracker on X.

When will the new 'Brand New Day' trailer drop?

The big question right now is when exactly the "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" trailer will drop. All signs point to today (June 17), but the exact timing remains pretty elusive. Fortunately, we can still make a pretty good guess at this stage.

For starters, there's a "Spider-Man: Brand New Day Global Fan Event" in Amsterdam hosted by Pathé Netherlands Cinemas. This event promises live entertainment and photo opportunities and kick-offs at 6 p.m. local time, which is 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. BST. However, I'm expecting the trailer a little earlier.

Over here in the U.K., tickets for "Brand New Day" go on sale at 2 p.m. BST (which is 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET), and I'm guessing the trailer will drop around this time. Why? Because that time slot is when Sony Pictures released the very first "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" trailer back on March 18. It's the perfect time to drop the trailer, with it being early afternoon in Europe and folks in the U.S. waking up.

So, if you want to watch the "Brand New Day" trailer 2 as soon as it drops, I advise freeing up your schedule for 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET / 2 p.m. BST. But, of course, we'll alert you in this live blog as soon as it's surfaced, so kick back and we've got this!

Who’s excited?!

Hey, Alix here taking over this live blog, and I’ll be bringing you all the latest updates, reactions, and trailer breakdowns as they happen!

While we wait for the trailer, how excited are you really for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”? Have your say in our poll here to see how ready you are for Peter Parker’s next chapter.

What is ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ going to be about?

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” takes place after the events of “No Way Home,” where the world has completely forgotten Peter Parker’s identity, leaving him to operate as a more isolated, street-level Spider-Man in New York.

The first trailer sees Peter investigating a new wave of strange crimes while also dealing with a possible dangerous change happening to his own powers.

Here’s the official synopsis from Sony:

“After the record-breaking global success of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he's devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.”

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ confirmed cast (so far)

Here’s the confirmed/widely reported cast list so far for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”:

  • Spider-Man / Peter Parker — Tom Holland
  • MJ (Michelle Jones-Watson) — Zendaya
  • Ned Leeds — Jacob Batalon
  • Frank Castle / The Punisher — Jon Bernthal
  • Bruce Banner / Hulk — Mark Ruffalo
  • Mac Gargan / Scorpion — Michael Mando
  • Lonnie Lincoln / Tombstone — Marvin Jones III
  • Sadie Sink (role not confirmed)
  • Tramell Tillman (role not confirmed)
  • Liza Colón-Zayas character (role not confirmed)
  • Eman Esfandi (rumored/undisclosed role)

Will this new trailer finally reveal Sadie Sink’s character?

(Image credit: Erik Pendzich / Alamy)

One of the biggest unanswered questions heading into “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is whether Sadie Sink’s mysterious role will be revealed ahead of the film’s release. Despite heavy fan speculation and multiple theories ranging from Jean Grey to original MCU characters, Marvel and Sony will probably keep her identity tightly under wraps. The next trailer could drop a very small hint, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Tom Holland reveals who could be the next Peter Parker

(Image credit: Fred Duval / Alamy)

In a recent interview with Esquire, Tom Holland said that if he eventually steps away from playing Spider-Man, he’d like to mentor his successor in the same way that Robert Downey Jr. helped him when he joined the MCU. When asked who he'd choose to take over, Holland named Owen Cooper, saying the young actor would be “incredible” in the role and praising his talent.

Interestingly, Cooper has previously said that Holland's performance in “The Impossible” inspired him to become an actor, making Holland's endorsement a full-circle moment.

No trailer yet, but at least we have more posters!

We're still waiting on the reported second trailer for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," but we are getting treated to more posters, including a new one of Spider-Man himself preparing for a fight!

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" may be the next major chapter in the MCU, but it's not the only thing coming from Marvel in the coming months. Make sure to check out our full guide to every upcoming Marvel movie and TV show coming to the MCU so you can stay on top of all the latest release dates and rumors.

Here's what's coming later this year:

  • "X-Men '97" season 2 (July 1)
  • "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" (July 31)
  • "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" season 2 (Fall 2026)
  • "Vision Quest" (Oct. 14)
  • "Avengers: Doomsday" (Dec. 18)

Will Zendaya be in 'Avengers: Doomsday'?

Still no trailer yet, so it's time to ask an important question: Will Zendaya make an appearance in "Doomsday"?

There's been no announcement made, and no reports of her on set. And just because Tom Holland's Spider-Man will likely appear in the next "Avengers" movie doesn't mean that MJ will be joinging him.

If both Mr. and Mrs. Zendaya appear in "Avengers: Doomsday," though, it'll cap a career year for the actress. She's already appeared in "The Drama," which was a success, and aside from "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," she's also going to be in "The Odyssey" and "Dune: Part Three" later this year. Weigh in below on whether or not she'll also make it into the biggest Marvel movie in years.

This could be Tom Holland's final Spidey movie

Speaking of which actors could appear in upcoming Marvel movies, this could be Tom Holland's last appearance in a "Spider-Man" movie.

"Avengers: Secret Wars" is setting up to be a reset event for the MCU, and the Russo brothers have even declared the current phase of Marvel "Phase Zero." Holland has now done four Spider-Man movies; more than any other actor. It wouldn't be a shock to see Marvel rethink the character, and recast the actor, following the 2027 "Avengers" movie.

We might finally know when the trailer is coming

Speculation is now running rampant on the internet that the trailer won't arrive until around 4:15 p.m. ET today. That's because there's a Global Fan Event in Amsterdam today that began at 12 p.m. ET.

On the schedule for that event is a "Surprise finale" at 10:15 p.m. local time, which is 4:15 p.m. ET. This event promises "a special reveal that will be shared worldwide" that will feature Tom Holland and Zendaya, so many now expect that this surprise will, in fact, be the trailer reveal. Nothing is confirmed yet, but the logic does track.

Maybe the real trailer was the friends we made along the way

As the wait for a trailer continues, some have decided to make light of the situation. Good for them — I'd like a trailer now, please.

Look at Tom Holland and Zendaya being cute

If we aren't getting the trailer soon, at least we can look upon this adorableness:

More 'Doomsday' stuff while we wait

Well, if the trailer truly isn't dropping for a couple more hours, let's take a detour with some "Avengers: Doomsday" news.

Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo brothers recently opened up about the pressure of making "Avengers: Doomsday" live up to "Infinity War" and "Endgame." RDJ promises a structured "antidote" to fan disappointment, while Joe Russo calls it the most emotionally complex and mature MCU movie yet.

"How do you not have these films be letdown?" RDJ ponders. We hope to find out

The trailer is finally here!

More thoughts incoming, but here it is!

Trailer breakdown

Let's break down this second "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" trailer beat by beat:

  • "I'm losing my mind." Peter (Tom Holland) is in a new reality in which he's fighting Scorpion (Michael Mando) and "totally out of control."
  • Peter is doomscrolling social media so he can get glimpses of MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) in their final semester at MIT.
  • Next, he no longer seems to need gadgets to shoot webs — he can eject them from his own body!
  • Alarmed, Peter approaches Professor Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) about suppressing mutating DNA. Banner wears a device that prevents him from Hulking out.
  • Peter wants to get rid of the bad but keep the good, but Banner ponders, "How do you decide what parts of nature are good or bad?"
  • "It appears we're faced with a threat we can't control." That is Bill Metzger (Tramell Tillman), who is the Director of the United States Department of Damage Control and an anti-mutant activist in the "X-Men" comics.
  • Yet in this trailer, he seems to be calling upon Spider-Man to face this threat because he's the only one "immune to it." Hmm.
  • Peter manages to meet Ned — who's got a "who's Spider-Man" board like any good sleuth/busybody — and MJ, who seems to have a boyfriend. Frowny face.
  • Later, Bruce's device has come off he turns into the Hulk. And Hulk SMASH Spidey!
  • Spider-Man swoops in to protect MJ and takes her to Frank Castle aka Punisher. Is that really a good idea?
  • Meanwhile, we hear narration by May telling Peter that he should remember that people love him because he is himself, no matter how powerful he becomes. Sob!
  • Then some red-clad ninjas arrive? They look like they might be the Hand, the ancient clan of assassins seen in the Daredevil comics.
  • "I miss you, May." Double sob!
  • The trailer's final button is a little scene of Peter stretching before he takes on a troop of security guards. "I'm not in high school anymore." LOL.

Sound off on the trailer

OK, after all that anticipating, what's your real take on the trailer?

Shot for ScreenX

Is your peripheral vision tingling? That might be because "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is being promoted as the first film to shoot dedicated ScreenX footage directly on set.

“For the first time ever, ScreenX and their team came to our set to actually shoot the footage that you will experience on screen on the wings in the chosen scenes of our film,” explains director Destin Daniel Cretton in a new featurette about the film's ScreenX presentation. You can check that out below.
